As many of us know, living in the constant spotlight of stardom can be very stressful for celebrities all over the world such as musicians, actors/actresses, movie stars and more because of the media that is involved and influences their lives. It is an unknown way of life for most of the population. Elton John, a famous and popular musician attempted suicide by sticking his head in a glass stove and breathing in deadly fumes. He later released a song called “Someone Saved my Life Tonight” where he expressed his story about depression and mental illnesses. Below are other celebrities who have experienced suicide or have been negatively influenced in their life. Yet they battled back to turn their life around:
Eric Thomas: Eric Thomas or commonly known as ET, is currently a motivational speaker who has visited many programs and educational systems to help the students on how to bounce back. He shares his story as a way for others to realize they must keep pushing forward to become successful no matter what is in their path. Known as the “Hip-Hop Preacher,” ET has influenced a tremendous amount of people who have listened to his videos, speeches and his life lessons on Youtube or in person. He grew up in Detroit, Michigan, a place heavily influenced with crime. Struggling in his teenage years in school without knowing his biological father, ET dropped out of high school and lived homeless on the dangerous streets of Detroit for two years. Lost, ET found a preacher, who inspired him to return to school and eventually change lives. Around this time ET got his first job and later met his wife, De-De Mosley. They moved to Alabama together to study at Oakwood University. On average, the amount of years to graduate with an undergraduate degree is four years, it took ET twelve. In 2003, Thomas took on a job at the Michigan State University where he would work as an academic advisor, while also continuing his studies. While working towards a masters degree in K-12 Administration, he developed a program for academically high-risk students and keeping them positive. That is when his career in motivation commenced. ET battled through the tough times of his life, imagine not having parents to influence you and take care of you in your teenage years. Rousey, or her nickname in the ring as Rowdy was at a career high point in her life with a winning streak of six matches. She has also been ranked number three in the women's` bantamweight class. She announced that in 2016 she was under serious depression and contemplated suicide after her devastating loss to Holly Holm who ended her winning streak of six matches. No physical, self harm damage was inflicted on Rousey although she had indicated how no one cared about her anymore. Eminem: Marshall Bruce Mathers lll or professionally known as EMINEM is an American rapper, record producer and actor. Born in St. Joseph Missouri and lived under the roof of a single mother, Deborah Mathers while Eminem’s father abandoned the family during the childhood of Marshall Mathers lll. His mother faced many issues such as maintaining a job for more than six months, which made Eminem and his siblings move from school to school at least two to three times a year. “Beat up in the bathroom, beat up in the hallways, shoved into lockers," (Lists. 52 Celebrities Who Attempted Suicide) Failed the ninth grade three times. Dropped out of high school. He hit rock bottom. He found a way to express his feelings on his life by Hip-Hop as well as rap. Although at the time rap was more popular sung by black males, Eminem stood out in rap battles as a young white male. His career took off from there and he finally found something he was interested in. After his debut album “Infinite,” which he released in 1996 and the album “Slim Shady EP” in 1997 he signed with Dr. Dre’s Aftermath Entertainment and achieved popularity later which he earned the Grammy Award for Best Rap Song Album. Eminem recalled in an interview. Later in life he shared publicly that his mother was addicted to prescription drugs as well as she beat him as a child physically and verbally through his lyrics’. She filed a ten million dollar lawsuit on Eminem but they came to an agreement of twenty-five thousand dollars. |
